Elaine Marx demonstrates a landscape in oils
on Saturday 20 August 2022
13:30 for 14:00

Elaine Marx is a South African artist and owner of Art Alive in Benoni.

Her preferred medium is oils, and her technique has been developed over the last 30 years. She visited a number of Art Schools after completing her four-year teaching degree where art was her favourite subject. She has recently started exploring with various tools to get unusual effects.

Elaine enjoys travelling around her beautiful country and abroad, specifically Europe, where she finds inspiration in the people, the old buildings and the master’s paintings. Photography is another love and during her travels, she often collects reference photographs for her paintings.

Rembrandt and Claude Monet are her main influences. Marx says that she often tries to analyze the ways in which these artists worked to be able to enhance her own methods.

In 2008 and 2009, she won a national Art Competition and a regional Art Competition, respectively. In 2014, she received the Vocational award from the Rotary Group of Benoni Aurora. Elaine also had 3 of her paintings feature in the South African Artist Magazine Calendar for 2018/2019

The demo will be on my landscape painting tips and techniques.
1. Working with a limited palette
2. How to get depth in a landscape
3. How to draw attention to the focal point
4. How to create detail with minimum effort
5. Use of unusual tools
