Terry Baker
Terry demonstrated how to create a semi-abstract oil painting on canvas using tools available to everyone. Terry originates from the Northern Cape, grew up in Kuruman, and was educated in Kimberley. After doing an apprenticeship as a fitter and turner, he chose to follow a career in draughting and engineering design and after working as a draughtsman for a number of years started his own business providing a draughting and design service to businesses in the Edenvale and surrounding areas. He works from home, still runs a design consulting service.
Terry’s mother was a great influence as far as art was concerned and she was an accomplished artist. In 2004 Terry took the great leap into the world of art by attending his very first art classes with Dennis Clark. When Dennis left for New Zealand, Terry continued classes with Cathy Verheul. He believes that as an artist one never stops learning and so still attends demonstrations and workshops whenever he can. Having painted in most commonly used fine art mediums, Terry settled on oils as his preferred medium, his favourite was Genesis Heat-Set paint (which he has used for some time and has demonstrated for us previously) until it was discontinued during COVID 19. Since then Terry has reverted to regular air-dry Oil Paint as a medium of choice.
Terry is also a keen collector of fine art.
