Lorraine Mackeand demonstrated botanical paintings in pencil and watercolours on Saturday 1 Sept 2024
Lorraine started painting after experimenting with other art forms, including pottery, and when she joined the Edenvale Artist group she enjoyed it so much she was moved to complete a Fine Arts Degree. Her interest grew further after two tours of the art world in London and she continued painting and found the use of colour really stimulating.
in the early 2000s she served on the Paint & Palette Club Committee. She exhibited in the club exhibitions that were held in the main hall of the Edenvale Centre, many of her paintings were sold, encouraging her further. Since then, she has participated in numerous exhibitions and sold many of her works. She has also taught, both privately and for groups.
Now her work concentrates on intricate botanical art, mainly in pencil and watercolour. She is inspired to paint strange growths and shapes in nature, some even in her own garden. She has a particular fondness for stryletzias and paints them in watercolour as well in the botanical style.
