John’s inspiration comes from a visual journal that he keeps.
John explains his process on painting the butterfly onto an antique spoon
John preparing his oil colours.
The setup.
The butterfly is outlined in black oil paint.
The base colours of yellow and orange are painted in.
Other colours are added to eventually fill in the whole butterfly.
More colour is added to fill in the rest of the butterfly.
The colours will then be blended using a stippling action.
A comparison.
